Naturopathic Oncology Services

We offer naturopathic oncology services, working in conjunction with cancer clients who are receiving conventional care. Naturopathic oncology is the application of the art and science of naturopathy to the field of cancer care.

Michael is a member of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OncANP), a professional society created by naturopathic doctors who either specialize in naturopathic oncology or who desire to further their knowledge and understanding of the field.

OncANP is an affiliate of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the national professional association of Naturopathic doctors in the US. OncANP’s vision is “…to enhance survival and quality of life for people living with cancer through the integration of naturopathic oncology into cancer care.”

Clinical Nutrition

Clinical nutrition is a basic element of naturopathy. It refers to the practice of using food to therapeutically address illness and maintain good health. Basic dietary principles must be observed in order to achieve long-lasting results.

Scientific research has shown that many conditions can be managed with food and nutritional supplements as well as they can by other means with the added bonus of fewer complications and side effects. We recognize that people can have sensitivities to foods or food groups.

Knowing one’s blood type can provide some insight into which foods are problematic. Further testing for food sensitivities may be suggested if needed.

Nutraceuticals

Nutraceuticals refers to nutritional supplements, including vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.

Products are suggested according to the client’s health status, medical history and medications being taken.  We strive to use products from companies that emphasize quality control and purity; whose products have been tested by independent labs to ensure highest quality.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy works with the whole person on a physical, mental and emotional level. Homeopathy was developed by Samuel Hahnemann, MD, in the late 1700s, and works by using the principle of “like curing like”.

Remedies are used based on the way an individual expresses symptoms. Symptoms are viewed as the body’s attempt to heal itself. Homeopathy literally means “similar suffering”.

Remedies are homeopathic when they mimic the person’s expression of symptoms.  Homeopathic remedies are microdoses of natural substances, are recognized by the US Food and Drug Administration, and are prepared by homeopathic pharmacies.

These remedies are non-toxic, and have a 200-year record of safety. With proper administration, they can be used safely in adults, children and infants.

Botanicals

Botanicals are plants that assist healing, and have been used for centuries for many health conditions (including cardiovascular health, blood sugar management, and digestive and immune functions). When used properly, plant substances are safe and effective.

A resurgence of scientific research in Europe and Asia demonstrates that under clinical conditions, some plant substances are superior to synthetic drugs.

Botanicals can be administered in several forms (teas, tinctures, capsules, salves).

As with nutraceuticals, we strive to use companies that produce quality organic products that have been tested for purity and potency, and are suggested according to heath status, medical history and medications being taken.

Metabolic Detoxification

Metabolic detoxification programs may include the use of cleansing foods, nutrients and botanicals. The goals are is to reduce excess inflammation and improve digestive function and the body’s management of metabolic waste products.

Programs can help with maintaining healthy blood sugar and blood lipid levels, as well as restoring proper body composition (relationship between fat mass and lean muscle mass).

Programs are designed according to the individual’s needs, with consideration given to those on medications or receiving other medical therapies.
